Painting is about addition and subtraction in the activity of movement. Using acrylic paint, I am always thinking about how movement co-composes with the paint, how I take it away, add more. Painting is like sculpture although I am always free to paint over it again, like a palimpsest. To paint is to move. I don’t care about the final product. Erin Manning writes about art as manner, as movement, and how the object “stands in for movement” which is how we engage in artistic relational process.
